As far as I know it's fine to leave it plugged in overnight. This does not harm the battery. Every so often though, you'll want to unplug it while using it, to let the battery drain, and then recharge it. This will ensure a longer battery life. Friends of mine have left their laptop plugged in all the time, and now it won't charge past 60%, while others will run out a lot faster as well. You can find TONS of info on this on Google.
i would recommend unplugging it when the machine is off. You never know when you may have a power surge from lightning, etc. better to be safe than sorry.
It will not harm the battery or laptop itself. However, your PSU could get damaged. So it would be best to unplug. I would not worry about battery lifetime, letting it drain etc. This will prolongue its lifetime by a few months tops.
It would be best if you unplug it over night when your machine is off.
plugged in over night pulls considerable power so would suggest pulling the plug and less power bills
i dont think id be too bad unless you had a surge.
Just unplug it to be safe from surges or anything like that. Just takes 2 seconds to unplug.
Like others has said, unplugging does protect you against any potential surges.
on my m11x, I just restart my PC, press F2 to enter bios, DISABLE the CHARGE BATTERY option and there it is, my battery is protected while I let my m11x be downloading all night long ;)
